Parents/Grandparents Super Visa to Canada

Super Visa For Parents & Grandparents

There are many ways to come to Canada on a temporary basis for family visits and a super visa is one of them. A super visa is one of the multiple entry Visas as visitors that Canada grants to parents and/or grandparents of Canadian residents and citizens. It provides its holder with multiple entry access up to 10 years of validity of the passport and each stay can be up to two years at each entry. The super-visa option was created mainly for grandparents and parents of Canadian citizens and permanent residents to enable them to have long-term stays.

What is the difference between A super visa and a Multiple-entry Visa?

A normal multiple entry visa allows its holder to visit Canada for only a period of 6 months at a stretch. Meanwhile, the Super Visa allows a visitor to stay up to 5 years at a stretch in Canada. The main thing that differentiates both visas is that super visas have a status period of up to two years for every entry.

Super Visa eligibility

Apart from meeting all the other multiple entry eligibility requirements, you must be:
1. A parent or grandparent of permanent residents or Canadian citizens
2. You must have a signed letter from the child or grandchild inviting you to Canada.
The letter should include:
– The names and the total number of occupants in the resident’s or citizen’s household.
– A copy of your child’s Canadian citizenship or permanent resident document.
3. Medical insurance from an insurance company in Canada. The insurance has to be valid for a minimum of one year and have a minimum of $100,000 coverage. Proof that the insurance has been paid for must also be at hand.
4. Only those who reside outside of Canada are eligible to apply because the application must be done outside Canada.
5. You must be willing to take an immigration medical exam.

Another thing you should take note of is that the child or grandchild (the inviter) must be able to prove that they pass the mark for the lowest income cut-off (LICO) applicable at that time. This can be done with an employment letter showing their salary and the date of hire, tax return documents etc

As a permanent resident or Canadian citizen, this is one of the easiest ways to get your parent or grandparent into Canada for an extended stay.

Bear in mind that the Canadian government will also consider things like the purpose of the visit, your home country and ties to it, the family repute and overall finances. All of these are to make sure that you actually leave at the time stipulated.
